Woman killed in Homerton road accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 52-year-old woman said to be from the Hackney area was killed in a collision with a Mercedes SUV while crossing Homerton High Street.

The incident took place on Sunday 20 November at around 7.20pm.

The woman was taken to Homerton Hospital for treatment but her condition deteriorated through the night and she was transferred to the Royal London Hospital on 21 November where she died from injuries related to the collision.

Next of kin have been informed and the deceased has been formally identified and named by police as Anne Crissie McCarthy.

A post mortem took place at the Royal London Hospital on 23 November and gave cause of death as a left sided haemothorax.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Poplar Coroner’s Court on 28 November.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been bailed to return to a London police station in mid-January 2012.
