A doctors’ surgery in Dalston is doing its bit for National Mental Health Awareness Week – by hosting an event this Thursday to illustrate the range of services on offer for Hackney residents.
The award-winning Richmond Road Medical Centre will welcome more than 35 organisations for its ‘Healthy Mind’ drop-in exhibition from 2-6pm on 17 May.
The local branch of leading mental health charity MIND will be there, along with staff from Homerton Hospital, Healthwatch Hackney, the borough’s Volunteer Centre and many more.
It is the second year running that Richmond Road has put on an event to mark mental health awareness week – which runs from 14-20 May – and Dr Gopal Mehta said the team is “really excited”.
“Approximately one in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year and we believe that no-one should face this alone,” he said.
“City & Hackney have a significant number of services available to those affected; from counselling and yoga to cooking and exercise classes.”
Entry to Thursday’s event is free and all residents are welcome to attend, no matter which GP practice they are registered with.
There will be interactive stands for patients to take part in, including live yoga, blood glucose testing and a lesson in inhaler techniques for those with breathing difficulties.
Over 400 patients turned up for last year’s ‘Healthy Mind’ showcase.
Dr Mehta added: “Our practice is fully committed to changing the face of mental illness within the borough.
“This year, representatives from over 35 key services will be on hand at the event, and we encourage everyone to come along and see whats on offer!”
Richmond Road Medical Centre picked up the ‘Team of the Year’ prize at 2017’s prestigious National GP Awards.
‘Healthy Mind’ runs from 2-6pm on Thursday 17 May at Richmond Road Medical Centre, 136 Richmond Road, E8 3HN.
Entry is free and all residents are welcome to attend.
