Hackney police launch murder investigation following death of mother and baby

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman and a baby in Hackney this morning.

Police were called at just after 9am this morning (Monday 31 March) following reports of three people injured at an address in Oswald’s Mead, E9.

The police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found a 45-year old woman, a 23 month-old baby girl and a 53 year-old man all of whom had suffered injuries.

The baby and the woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

He has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police are awaiting formal identification of the victims and post-mortems will take place in due course.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Det. Chief Inspector Charles King, are investigating to establish the circumstances of the incident.
