Pupils who join The City Academy with below average grades are studying at levels twice the national average just two years later, a new Ofsted report shows.

A recent Ofsted inspection branded the Hackney academy“outstanding” in every category. The report states: “This is an outstanding school. It has created an environment with opportunities to excel in a safe, inspiring and enriching atmosphere.”

It also states that the school “has made outstanding progress towards raising standards” since it opened 18 months ago, and has worked towards increasing life chances for students in the borough.

“Teaching is skilled, creative and consistently high quality so that students’ progress in lessons is rapid”,  it continues.

Principal Mark Emmerson says the report is: “an important milestone on the journey to the ultimate aim of delivering outstanding results and academic excellence for every student in the academy”.

The City Academy replaced Homerton Boys Technology College in 2009 and now teaches 900 11 to 16-year-old boys and girls.
