Do you know this man? ask British Transport Police

British Transport Police (BTP) have released a CCTV image of a man they are trying to identify as part of an investigation into a number of homophobic stickers which have been put up around Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The stickers, found at various locations over the past two months, feature a rainbow flag with a red line through it with the message ‘gay-free zone’.

In one incident, a sticker was found at Bow Church DLR station. The sticker is believed to have been placed at the station around 4pm on 12 February.

The stickers, approximately 2 inches x 4 inches, have also been found in the Poplar, Canary Wharf, Whitechapel and Brick Lane areas.

BTP Detective Constable Elaine Sexton, of the Public Protection Unit, said: “We are working together with the Metropolitan Police, and have been conducting local enquiries across east London in a bid to identify those responsible for these stickers.

“These stickers are offensive and we are keen to identify the man in the images as we believe he has information which may assist the investigation.”

Superintendent Mark Wolski, from Tower Hamlets Police, said: “These stickers are divisive in nature and so we would encourage anyone with information to contact our colleagues at BTP to help identify the perpetrators.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the image or who has any information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting background log number B13/LUA of 29/03/2011. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Just what I thought… clearly an MI5 officer working undercover as a member of the EDL/BNP!

Or a mirage, given that Islamism isn’t supposed to exist…

  3. Adam on Tuesday 5 April 2011 at 21:14

He may not be an Islamist or even a Muslim. He may just be a bigot.

  4. The Great Smell Of Brute on Tuesday 5 April 2011 at 21:20

True. Puts paid to some of the more knee-jerk responses from the so-called left though, doesn’t it?

  5. Adam on Wednesday 6 April 2011 at 10:49

Yes. I’m surprised there are so few comments on this, given the amount of debate the original story generated.

Guess that sockpuppets are staying in their drawer this time! 😉

Read the original ludicrous and hilarious lefty comments on the original post like this one from The Duchess of HAckney

2.Duchess of Hackney on February 21st, 2011 at 1:06 pm:

When I first heard of this last week, I had doubts about any islamic connection. I could be wrong, but I feel a far right group could be the perps

    YOU’RE TOTALLY WRONG!

Looks like briannny did witness the offending Muslim

I know, I know…he’s a Hindu fundamentalist, trying to discredit east London’s Muslim community on behalf of the EDL! Do I win a prize? 🙂

Wait a sec, there… I’m a lefty. Not all lefties jump to ridiculous conclusions. I always said we needed to withhold judgment until more evidence was available. And we probably still do… but it doesn’t look too good for some of the more far-fetched “theories” detailed on the other thread.

@Adam: the Stalinists don’t like it up ’em (the truth, that is)!

  14. Brianny on Saturday 9 April 2011 at 09:47

Yes,I think that’s probably the same guy altho I obviously saw him from normal eye level, and in focus. He did NOT have a “muslim traditionalist” type beard, the shadow under this guy’s chin makes it a bit hard to judge…I am awaiting some form of apology from the couple of pompous gossips who did their level best, for either dogmatic or egoist reasons, to discredit me and thereby hamper a proper investigation into a hate crime that targets a group of people they have arrogantly claimed to represent. But I won’t receive one, because the wankers in question will have already moved on to spinning dull yarns about some other thing they know nothing about. While sellotaping tomatoes to their heads.

Let’s not forget the links between the POLICE and the far right.

And let’s not forget the links between the Tories and the far right.

  16. Dennis The Menace on Monday 11 April 2011 at 09:10

And most importantly let us not forget that the EDL were PROVEN to be involved in this story.

  17. The Great Smell Of Brute on Monday 11 April 2011 at 09:40

Just HOW exactly was the EDL ‘proven’ to be involved with this story, other than as the subject of knee-jerk smears from the propaganda foghorns of the authoritarian left? They don’t even have a significant presence in the Shoreditch/Whitechapel area (and are therefore irrelevant)!

More rant and cant from a UAF/SWP sockpuppet, in the hope that the majority of people are too lazy to read the known facts for themselves.

  18. Dannie on Monday 11 April 2011 at 09:52

Was that “PROVEN to be involved” as in “they did it” or as in “they were falsely claimed to have done it” by internet bullshitters??
Also, let us not forget the links between Islam and the repression/murder of homosexuals.Or if you prefer, the link between far right muslims and the far right. And the links between all the descriptions of young Asian men putting these stickers up,and this photo of a young Asian man who is claimed to have put these stickers up.And the links between the UAF and continual dogmatic misrepresentation of actual events!
It’s just fortunate for UK anti-nazis that the far right minorities are as self-serving,cliquey,openly dishonest & incompetent as groups like the UAF.

  19. Dannie on Monday 11 April 2011 at 10:00

BTW prefixing an unsubstatiated rumour with the words “let us not forget” is authoritarian extremist propaganda at it’s most repulsive.

I am amazed that this thread is continuing! The logical twists & turns that are being taken to sustain the anti-EDL theory (as if that shower actually NEEDED discrediting) are getting pretty impressive. This must be how the simplistic dogmas of the world manage to sustain themselves in the face of overwhelming contrary evidence.Whether it be an “anti-fascist” pretending that authorship of a handful of stickers offers conclusive evidence that fascist authoritarian repression is worse that Islamic authoritarian repression,or that one invisible sky god’s favoured group of simian playthings is more worthy than the next,or that the intolerance of boorish indigenous groups is more insidious than that of racist immigrants,or that left-wing gays are more representative than right-wing gays,or that events are malleable enough to bend to the most abstract of speculations, humankinds resourcefulness in the field of self-delusion is ever a joy and wonder!
BTW does anyone have any rhetorically charged theories on the possible socio-politico-sexual motivations behind the current wave of Michael Jackson statues?
