Hackney’s new mayor Zoë Garbett spent her first 100 days “giving Hackney back to its people”. The council newsroom hasn’t quite got round to giving it back from her predecessor.
On news.hackney.gov.uk, the little box inviting you to “Sign up to receive Hackney news in your inbox” is still illustrated by a beaming Caroline Woodley, clipboard in hand, walking three delighted locals through the Hackney Town Hall Square consultation. Mayor Garbett has her own widget two squares along, so the page now offers one mayor for news and a different one for keeping in touch.
Hackney is Yours, says the new campaign. The newsletter, apparently, is still Caroline’s.
Shame on the relevant Council official(s) for not updating this! They’ve had months to do that, after all.
The new Green administration seems to be saddled with a relentlessly Labour-leaning bureaucracy, as well as being constantly barracked by their envious Labour predecessors. Those seem much more active in criticising the Green mayor and councillors than they ever were about meeting the needs of Hackney people. Surely they should be focusing on remedying their own failings, if they ever want to return to running the borough.
