Local council results:
The Labour party has gained six more council seats, and now holds 50 out of a total of 57.
Five council seats were gained from the Conservatives: one in Springfield, two in Lordship, and two in New River wards.
Labour also gained one from the Green party in Clissold ward.
The Liberal Democrats won all three council seats in Cazenove ward, regaining the one they had previously lost to Labour.
There are now 50 Labour councillors, 4 Conservative councillors and 3 Liberal Democrats.
The higher turnout of a general election has meant that hundreds of Hackney citizens who would not normally vote in council elections have done so.

Even more of a one party state. Bad news I think. The all powerful Labour group will be even more complacent and arrogant with no one to call them to account. Just wait for next years council tax rise. Gulp.
Um, they haven’t been raising council tax in recent years despite dominating the council. And what does the results in one council have to do with the notion of a ‘one-party state’?
I’m not speaking as a labourite (I voted for 5 different parties across the various elections) but this is just ill-conceived scaremongering.
“Um, they haven’t been raising council tax in recent years”
Thats exactly why the council tax will rise. They will have to pay for services somehow and together with central govt grants being reduced to councils this is the only way to bring in funds.
Not scaremongering but the truth my new labour friend
in Cazenove the 3 LIb-Dem won it originally but one defected to Labour. So not really a Lib-Dem gain.
This was due to the large Jewish postal vote.
in Lordship the Conservative leader threw out Mr Tesler who stood as an independent, Because of this the conservative leader lost the large Jewish postal vote and lost his seat.
In Springfield the large Jewish postal vote returned 2 Jewish candidates. The newer candidate recieving many more.
the large discrepancy between the votes of the Jewish candidates in each ward is very revealing
Delighted to see the good people of Hackney keeping the faith. I’m sure you’d agree that our gains in New River were particularly impressive.
Disappointed to see disgruntled people referring to the outcome of a democratic election in ‘one party state etc’ terms. Such people are the worst kinds of democrats; they believe in the process until the proles decide not to vote how The Sun, The Guardian, and the rest of the fourth estate tell them to.
Now the real work begins. We must repay the faith of the people of Hackney by delivering a radical and, dare I say it, democratic socialist model of local government for Hackney. This involves building on our successes and, most importantly, learning from our failures.
the gains in new river were nothing spectacular. the two failed conservative candidates
odze his son was sacked (or resigned) from the council for unbecoming conduct. so that played off on the father.
papier no one has ever heard of him before and no one even knows who he is. looks like a ghost candidate.
middleton an old and trusted candidate did win
