Hackney bin collection days to change over Christmas period

Hackney residents have been warned their bin collection days may change over the festive period.

With Christmas now just days away, rubbish is likely the furthest thing from many people’s minds. However, it’s always best to be prepared.

Collection services do not run on Bank Holidays, including Christmas Day and Boxing Day – Thursday and Friday of next week.

New Year’s Day is also a Bank Holiday and also falls on a Thursday. Collection which would typically happen on Friday, 2 January, is also subject to a delay.

Residents whose usual collection days fall on Thursday or Friday will be subjected to a delay of up to two days. If your rubbish is typically collected on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, you won’t be affected.

The council urged residents who are unsure of their collection day to check their website.

Whether your collection day is the same as always or is affected by the Bank Holidays, make sure your bins and green sacks are placed at the edge of your property by 6am on the appropriate day.
