Renowned Hackney-based artist Jock McFadyen is offering the chance to win an original painting as part of a crowdfunding campaign for war-ravaged Ukraine.

The Royal Academician, whose studio is in London Fields, is helping charity Mighty Convoy raise money to send an ambulance full of medical supplies to the country.

With 24 days remaining, the campaign is just over halfway to its target of £7,000, which would pay for the ex-NHS vehicle, fuel, insurance and passage.

Everyone involved in Mighty Convoy is a volunteer, including all drivers, who not only spare their time but also pay for their own expenses and flights home.

So far, the charity has organised 14 convoys to Ukraine, and donated 61 vehicles – mainly ambulances and pick-up trucks.

In its appeal, the charity says: “As the war continues, Ukraine’s medical system is under immense strain. Hospitals are overwhelmed, supplies depleted and many ambulances have been destroyed.

“These vehicles are vital for ferrying wounded soldiers and civilians from field stations to hospitals, often making the difference between life and death.”

Anyone who donates £25 to the crowdfunder gets one entry into a prize draw that could see them win One Giant and Two Dodgy Tinies, an oil on canvas by McFadyen, or a sculpture by fellow Scottish artist Stephen Skrynka.

Those who purchase two or more tickets will be sent an A3 poster of McFadyen’s painting.

One Giant and Two Dodgy Tinies was created as a response to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with US president Donald Trump and vice-president JD Vance earlier this year.

Skrynka’s wooden sculpture, Fencepost Bandura, represents the bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine and a symbol of its resistance. The artwork was handcarved out of recycled fenceposts to call to mind the idea of ‘border’.
