Homerton Healthcare has unveiled Bas Sadiq as its new chief executive – and she has “deep roots” in north-east London.

Sadiq, who has 20 years’ experience in the NHS, kicked off her career as a receptionist in 2004 before moving to her first management role after two years.

For the past 10 months, she served as deputy chief executive at Homerton Healthcare Trust, but has now stepped up to replace retiring CEO Louise Ashley.

Alongside the executive role, Sadiq will work as the place-based leader for City & Hackney Health and Care Partnership, which includes Hackney Council as one of its partners.

Sadiq said: “Having grown up in Haringey and worked in every acute trust in north-east London, my roots run deep in this part of the capital.

“This connection has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the communities we serve.

“I am very proud and excited to be taking up this role and look forward to continuing our work with colleagues in the local authorities and third sector in providing the very best of health for local people.”

Before she joined the Homerton, Sadiq worked as the chief improvement and strategy officer at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.

Prior to that, she held senior operation roles in acute and community trusts.

Dr Sandra Husbands, Hackney Council’s director of public health, congratulated Sadiq on her appointment, saying she looked forward to working with her to “help continue to improve the health and wellbeing of residents across Hackney and the City”.

“All the partners were extremely impressed with her during the recent selection process,” Dr Husbands added.

“I know that we have an excellent partner and leader in Bas and I’m very much looking forward to continuing our productive partnership for the benefit of all of us.”
