A  former Hackney councillor faces charges relating to indecent images of children.

Thirty-six-year-old Tom Dewey has been charged with offences relating to indecent images of children as part of a National Crime Agency investigation.

He  was arrested by National Crime Agency officers at his home in Hackney in April 2022 and was released under investigation.

He has now been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of extreme pornographic images and possession of prohibited images of children.

He remains released under investigation and will appear at court at a date to be confirmed.

He was elected as a Labour councillor for De Beauvoir ward in last May’s local elections but stood down weeks later, triggering  a by-election.
