The firm behind some of London’s “most exciting music events” in forgotten buildings and public spaces wants to stage street parties in Shoreditch.

Krankbrother is asking for a licence for up to 2,000 people on Clifton Street for one Saturday a year between May and September.

The event would include a stage, complete with sound system. There will also be bars, toilets, entrance gates, and a first aid post – all fenced off from the road.

The application comes before Hackney’s licensing committee on 30 May.

Family-run Krankbrother made its name “organising some of the most exciting music events in London, throwing parties in countless forgotten buildings, public spaces and one-off outdoor locations”.

The company said its staff “follow their hearts when it comes to curating their musical programme”.

It said it has strict rules and urges party-goers to “obey the laws of the land”.

“Drugs are no more legal at a festival than in the outside world. Drug-dealing and consumption will not be tolerated.”

It warns people admission is “subject to search” and they can’t bring in items including alcohol, glass, drugs, including legal highs, and weapons.

Krankbrother said the party is aimed at over-25s and there will be ID checks on the door and at bars “as required”.

An event management team will liaise with residents and the council’s licensing department and will have responsibility for safety, security, welfare, noise control and clean-up. There will also be licensed security staff.

However, several nearby residents are objecting to the application.

They said they need access to their properties 24/7 and want to avoid problems.

A nearby hospitality business told the council it would have to close during the event and fear “severe losses”.

The police and licensing authority have made no objections.
