Hackney Council has announced the return of its Winter Warmer event to help residents stay cosy during the colder months.

Residents and leaseholders over the age of 55 and living in council housing are invited to attend the free event.

It runs from 11am until 3pm on 1 November at St John at Hackney Church on Lower Clapton Road.

Attendees will receive useful advice on how to keep the cold at bay as living costs soar, as well as get a chance to meet people and chat.

Cllr Clayeon McKenzie, cabinet member for housing services and resident participation, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to run this hugely popular event again.

“It is especially key now so many people across the borough will be worrying about how they are going to cover their bills due to the cost-of-living crisis.

“This event is a fantastic way for people aged 55 and over who live in one of our council homes to find out some useful information and see the wide array of activities on offer in Hackney for older people.

“I would strongly urge all of our older residents not to miss out.”

This is the first Winter Warmer since 2019, with the event put on hold during the pandemic. Previous gatherings have attracted 500 to 600 people.

Staff from council services and local organisations will be on hand to provide support on how to tackle rising bills.

Attendees will also be able to take advantage of a free massage or dabble in some stress-relieving arts and crafts.

For more information, residents over 55 can contact the Hackney Council Resident Participation Team on 020 8356 7845 or by email get.involved@hackney.gov.uk.
