Police have named the victim of a fatal shooting in Hackney as 21-year-old Oluwamayowa Adeymi.

Local resident Adeymi, known as Samson, was found with gunshot injuries by police and the London Ambulance Service outside an address he had just left, after officers were called at around 11.30pm on Friday 5 June to reports of shots fired in Brackenfield Close, E5.

Homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are now urging anyone in Brackenfield Close or with information to get in touch with them.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said: “Following initial enquiries we know that there were people in Brackenfield Close at the time of the shooting.

“I would urge those people, and anyone else who has information that could progress this investigation to get in contact immediately.

“This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of a young man’s life and has left his family and friends devastated. If you can help us find those responsible, then please get in contact.”

Despite the efforts of medics and officers, Adeymi was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination revealed cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the chest.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and was released on bail to return on a date in early July.

Central East Borough Commander Marcus Barnett said: “We understand this is a concerning time for Hackney residents but please be assured we have increased our resources in the borough and are providing support to the investigation team.

“Our thoughts remain with the victim and his family during this devastating time for them.

“Get in touch with us if you see something or know something about a crime that has either happened or might potentially happen – your information can save lives.”

Hackney Mayor Philip Glanville, speaking on 6 June, said: “No community in Hackney wants to wake up in the early morning to hear about a shooting leading to a loss of life.

“My thoughts are with this young man’s family and friends and wider community. No one should have their life taken in this way.

“I would urge calm and the council’s community outreach team is in place, and more broadly we are assisting the police to respond to what is now a murder investigation.”
