Titbits – Happy turn and borough burn

◆ A change of heart from Mayor Philip Glanville. Quizzed by the Citizen about the Town Hall’s recent cladding report U-turn during an interview for his re-election bid, Glanville made warm noises about the need for the local press to be the council’s “eyes and ears”, and to let them know if “something’s going wrong”.

It was only a few short months ago that he chastised this paper for “unduly worrying residents” with its reporting on fire safety failures in Hackney following the Grenfell fire.

For once, a welcome U-turn!

◆ After Hackney lost out to Lewisham in a recent social media flash poll phenomenon, the ‘World Cup of London Boroughs’, titbits regular, prolific tweeter and, in his spare time, local councillor Jon Burke said: “Everyone who has moved to Lewisham from Hackney is pretending they prefer it there…”
