St Joseph’s Hospice in Mare Street is running two free events for prospective volunteers next month.

On the days in question there will be a film screening and the opportunity to tour the hospice, which already has more than four hundred active volunteers and around three hundred members of staff.

It provides end of life care and other related services including counselling and a support for families after the death of a loved one.

There will be light refreshments on offer and visitors will be able to watch a short film about volunteering made for St Joseph’s pro bono by international advertising agency Weiden+Kennedy.

A spokesperson for the hospice said they hoped “as many people from the local community as possible” would attend.

She added: “The hospice is a friendly and vibrant place with lots of opportunities to get involved whether you have a lot or a little time to offer.”

Tickets for the events on Saturday 4 February (10am-2pm) and Wednesday 8 February (4pm-7pm) can be reserved via Eventbrite.

Three years ago the Hackney Citizen went behind the scenes at St Joseph’s, which has been going strong ever since it was founded by Irish nuns in 1900.
