Two men have been charged with committing racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage after 100 car tyres were slashed in Stamford Hill over the weekend.

The Metropolitan Police have named the men as 27 year old Huseiyn Seyel from Ilford and Steven Truran, 25, of Wood Green.

A spokesperson from the Jewish community police force Shomrim, who assisted with the investigation, said that “Volvos and people-carriers” were targeted as they are vehicles popular “amongst the local Jewish community”.

More than sixty vehicles were damaged in the N16 and E5 area.

The Shomrim spokesperson said: “Shomrim worked tirelessly throughout the last few days to assist the Police with their investigation, by initially providing intelligence regarding the suspects, then locating and persuading victims to report it, helping victims fill in self-reporting statements and reviewing hours on hours of local CCTV footage.

“Shomrim and the wider community are very grateful to Hackney Police for their swift and hard work to get two suspects charged in such a short space of time.”

The pair will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 19 November.
