A 15 year-old boy has been charged with the murder of schoolgirl Shereka Fab-Ann Marsh.

He will appear at Stratford Magistrates Court today, Monday 24 March, having been charged yesterday.

Two 16-year-olds previously arrested on suspicion of her murder were released without charge yesterday.

Shereka died on Saturday (22 March) of a gunshot wound to the neck at a house in Eastway, Hackney Wick.

Police, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were all called, however the 15 year-old schoolgirl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier this month (10 March) Shereka helped give high-profile visitors, including the Jamaican High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs. Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, a tour of Urswick School, at which she was a Prefect. She had applied to study A-levels at the school’s Sixth Form Academy and was expected to score high marks on the GCSEs this summer.

“We are all shocked by the completely unexpected and tragic death of Shereka,” said Richard Brown, the school’s headteacher.  Brown described Shereka as “one of the shining stars of our school. Shereka was loved by her year group and students across the school, and by the staff who taught her… She was a very able student with a bubbly personality.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Shereka’s family and friends, who we will support as best we can over the weeks ahead.”
