London meets Los Angeles in a group exhibition held at Transition Gallery this month exploring linguistic tropes in art that affect notions of identity and consciousness.

Head Grammar sees London-based artists exhibit alongside artists from LA’s Weekend Gallery. Using a range of media including painting, sculpture, video, installation and performance, the exhibition aims to construct a ‘perceptual prism’ through which to view the world.

Exhibition-goers can chat on Skype with the artist Jay Erker in Los Angeles, in a process meant to foster new connections while exploring differences of language, culture and geography. Other works will incorporate the viewer in a more visual sense – James Irwin’s contribution is a series of mirrored panels that will draw attention to the relationship between beholder and object.

Painting is never far from the fore at Transition, and one of the more visually arresting displays promises to be Lisa Penny’s playful works that combine clothing with paint and other forms of representation.

Other artists taking part include John Mills, who will be exhibiting paintings that touch upon archaic and contemporary notation systems, and Bern Roche Farrelly, who is set to provide combination of performance, printmaking, sculpture, drawing and installation.

Head Grammar is at Transition Gallery8 Andrews Road, E8 4QN until 30 March
