Threatened Victorian landmark Haggerston Baths could be thrown a lifeline if a potential buyer’s plan to purchase the building goes swimmingly.

Layla Amiri from Pod Architects Ltd said she has contacted Hackney Council on behalf of a client who is interested in buying the Grade II-listed property on Whiston Road.

Haggerston Baths has been named as one of the ten most endangered Victorian and Edwardian buildings in England and Wales by The Victorian Society.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Hackney Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, has said the council will work with The Victorian Society or anyone else who has ‘viable proposals’ for the building.

Ms Amiri contacted the council after reading about the building’s plight in November’s Hackney Citizen.
