A staff member at a mental health unit will appear in court next month charged with helping a convicted murderer to escape.

Dean Ablakwa, 29, from north London, is accused of helping

Lerone Michael Boye, 27, to escape from the John Howard Centre in Homerton.

Boye was sentenced in December last year to 28 years for the murder of 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze in Ilford in 2011.

He absconded from the centre – meant to be a secure unit – at around 2pm on 16 October.

Police are still appealing for help in tracing him.

He is described as a black male, approximately 5ft 10ins tall with a slim build and short black hair.

He has a horseshoe shaped scar on his right cheek and a goatee beard.

He was last seen wearing grey jogging bottoms and grey/blue sweatshirt with a grey vest over the top and is known to have links to the Ilford area.

Public are advised not to approach Boye but call 999 if seen.

Anyone with any information about Boye’s whereabouts can also call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Mr Ablakwa was remanded in custody to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 7 November.
