Metropolitan Police officers are handing out leaflets at the scene of a suspected fatal assault in Upper Clapton in a bid to find witnesses.

The suspected attack on Bakre Yesufu, 47, is said to have taken place four weeks ago today – in broad daylight.

Mr Yesufu, of Rossington Street, Clapton, suffered a serious head wound at 4.10pm in Upper Clapton Road close to the junction of Rossington Street, E5, on Wednesday 10 July.

He died in hospital three weeks later.

A post-mortem examination took place at Popular mortuary on 30 July and the cause of death was given as pulmonary embolism.

An incident room is open at Hendon under the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

The Met Police’s press office says officers will be returning to the scene today between 3pm and 5pm handing out appeal leaflets in a bid to find information.

Detective Sergeant Mark Chard said: “The area that the assault occurred would have had a number of people in it going about their business and we would urge anyone who was there, that hasn’t already, to contact us and tell us what they saw or heard. Whatever it may be could be significant to our investigation.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8358 0300 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Two men were arrested in connection with the investigation on 10 July and 19 July and subsequently charged.
