Thousands of festival-goers gathered late last month to mark the first anniversary of the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The Open East festival attracted an estimated 50,000 people of all ages to the newly re-opened Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.

Open East hosted Sacrilege, the life-sized inflatable bouncy castle replica of Stonehenge by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller and live music.

Performers from the Danny Boyle-choreographed Opening Ceremony were among the other attractions.

Liz Ansah, whose son Elijah is due to attend Olympic Village-based Chobham Academy next term, said: “We usually have to travel miles to a festival. It’s great to have this on our doorstep.”

The spectacular final act, Bompas & Parr’s Chromatospia: A Water Symphony, combined a specially commissioned composition and light show with the releasing of dye into the River Lea to turn it fluorescent green.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is now open daily. More information can be found at queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk
