Shoreditch club East Village stripped of license after police request

Promoters at a popular nightclub were “shocked” after it was stripped of its license pending a Town Hall review this month.

East Village in Shoreditch was shut down after police requested a closure order from Hackney Council, whose spokesman said: “We always take these matters very seriously and continue to cooperate fully with the police.”

Two men were arrested and have been bailed until 13 December.

East Village did not respond to an emailed request for comment but a message on the club’s website posted shortly after the closure last month stated: “The promotions and music team had the shocking and totally unexpected news that East Village’s license was suspended this week with a full review pending within a month. Unfortunately we are unable to open this weekend so all events have both been cancelled or moved (check the listings page) and we apologize to both promoters and fans of  the nights for the serious inconvenience caused.”
