Firefighters rescued a man from a first floor flat above a Turkish restaurant during a blaze in Stoke Newington this morning (Wednesday).

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the fire in Stoke Newington Road caused damage to ducting from a restaurant and smoke spread to a first floor flat.

Four fire engines and 21 fire fighters and officers from Kingsland and Stoke Newington Fire stations attended the blaze, which started shortly after 10am and was under control by 11am.

Parts of the A10 were closed during the incident.
