A popular pub which had to close after Hackney Council found it was infested with mice is carrying out a deep clean of its premises and may be allowed to reopen tomorrow.

The Haggerston in Kingsland Road was closed by the council’s environmental health team and issued with an emergency prohibition order, meaning the premises will remain closed until the Town Hall is satisfied the health risk has been removed.

The pub has tried to make light of the situation by displaying a sign that read: “Due to Mickey Mouse moving in with all his friends, we are closed until we manage to evict him.”

The deep clean is currently in its final stages, and the management hope to have the doors open again by tomorrow.

A council spokeswoman said: “Before it can reopen the owner must carry out work to make the premises fit to trade again. This includes a deep clean of the premises, a robust cleaning and sanitisation plan detailing how this will be implemented each day; and a pest control plan.”
