Police appeal after woman sexually assaulted on Regent’s Canal

Police are appealing for information to trace a man who sexually assaulted a young woman on the Regent’s Canal.

On Tuesday 16 April 2013 at around 9pm, a 20 year-old woman went out for her daily run along  the Regent’s Canal.

Halfway through her run she was grabbed around her waist by the man and dragged to the ground. In an attempted to escape, the woman threw herself into the canal.

The man was seen to leave the area in the direction of the De Beauvoir Estate, N1.

The woman was helped out of the water by a passerby.

The attacker is described as a black and around 6 feet tall, and wore a black hat and a grey tracksuit.

Hackney Police ask women to remain vigilant when jogging or walking on the Regent’s Canal towpath and if you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area call 999.
