One week on from a murder in Hackney police are in the Clapton neighbourhood this weekend to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Detectives are continuing their appeal for information following the death of Islington teenager Joseph Burke-Monerville.

Officers were called after two men were shot while sitting in a parked car in Hindrey Road E5 at around 8.20pm on Saturday 16 February.

A 19 year-old man who was also in the vehicle escaped injury.

The two injured men were taken to hospital by ambulance where Burke-Monerville died at around 11.10pm of a gunshot wound to the head.

The second victim, aged 22, was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

DCI Kenny McDonald from Trident is heading up the investigation.

Police are appealing for information on two suspects seen running from the scene.

The first is black, and the second is light-skinned – possibly of Asian or Turkish appearance.

They were seen making off on foot from Hindrey Road E5 after the shooting, heading towards the nearby Pembury Estate.

DCI McDonald said: “A week has now passed since Joseph’s tragic murder. Officers from Trident and Hackney borough will be in the Hindrey Road area over the weekend and will be appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to us.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting and who may seen what happened, or have witnessed the two men fleeing the scene to contact officers.

“Whilst we continue to work to try and establish the motive for this murder, I firmly believe there are people in the community who have important information that will assist the investigation.

“I would like to emphasise Trident will treat any information received sensitively and in the upmost confidence.”

There have been no arrests so far.
