Hackney WickED is to hold a mini-festival at Red Market in Shoreditch on 25 and 26 August during the bank holiday weekend.

As the Olympics moved in, the annual arts festival was obliged to move out of its usual Wick location and switch from a three-day format to a year-long programme of arts events.

The Red Market weekend will include installations, film, performance and debate, as well as sand castles and ice cream.

Organiser Laura May Lewis says: “Hackney WickED remains dedicated to providing a platform for artists to showcase work alongside established and international names. Hackney WickED continues to evolve, adapting to the changing social & built environment whilst remaining a dynamic force for promoting local culture”.

Now in its fifth year, Hackney WickED is designed to provide a platform for artists to showcase work alongside established and international names.

It’s called Hackney WickED as it’s normally in Hackney Wick…

Shame after years of doing it in Hackney Wick,
they’ve been moved on. No doubt so more money can be made by the old venue (with other events, corporate sponsors etc).

The same risk applies for artists in Hackney Wick, when developers come in due to the Olympics and the money that’s going into the area.

Don’t worry Emily it’s not moved on..it’s grown. We are also holding Hackney Wicked open studios; a mini Wicked if you like. Galleries, Coracle Regatta and talk of a surprise new thing… 21st-23rd September

We’ll be back in Hackney Wick in no time at all…look out for Open Studios in September, in the mean time pop down to our kind hosts @RED Market for August Bank Holiday.
