The brother of former EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie appeared in court today charged with her murder.

Tony McCluskie, 35, of Pelter Street, Hackney, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth in a hearing at Thames Magistrates’ Court that lasted just over one minute.

Chair of the bench Cliff Lynn told McCluskie he was remanded in custody and that a preliminary hearing has provisionally been set for Monday 26 March.

A bail hearing will take place at the Old Bailey on Wednesday 14 March.

Ms McCluskie, 29, played Kerry Skinner on the BBC soap in more than 30 episodes in 2001.

She went missing from her home in east London over a week ago and her torso was found floating in the Regent’s Canal near Broadway Market last Tuesday.
