Autograph ABP Photography Road Show

Couple, Poole. Dorset, early 1960s. Photographer unknown

Now you can digitise your family albums and snapshots with a team of professionals and become part of a continuously growing, living archive. Just visit Autograph ABP’s Photography Road Show, to be held at Rivington Place, Shoreditch from 12-5pm on Saturday 23 October.

Autograph ABP is charity that works internationally to educate the public in photography, with a particular emphasis on issues of cultural identity and human rights. They believe that the ‘real’ story of multi-cultural Britain cannot be told without the inclusion of images by amateur photographers, whose family pictures reveal another aspect of a complex and diverse country.

Unearthing the hidden treasures of personal archives, the vernacular photographs in Autograph’s collection bear witness to the potential transformation of the family album into powerful narratives of community, memory, history, and identity.

This event endeavours to unlock, document and preserve the real-life, magical moments that form part of everyone’s family archive. From birthday and street parties to intimate scenes of domestic life and high street studio portraits, Autograph ABP is interested to see what your cupboards hold, in order to capture a social history that is often neglected yet represents an integral part of our wider cultural heritage.

Over the next two years, the photography road show will tour major English cities where members of the public will have the opportunity to make their own contribution to this historic resource.
