Victoria Park’s Field Day may be consolidating into a one day event, but two new projects launched by the festival’s team, in collaboration with local businesses, aim to lengthen the good times.

The Five Points Brewing Company, based in Hackney Central, have created a session pale ale specifically to be drank by Field Day attendees. The ABV is relatively low, only 4.2% – perfect for the full day’s worth of drinking that, rumour has it, many at Field Day plan to undertake.

The Citizen has tasted an initial batch of the canned brew, which pairs Mosaic hops with lemon and grapefruit rind to create a hazy, quaffable pale. There are elements of bitterness, which come from the fruit alone, although future batches may be subject to some ‘dry hopping’ (adding more hops post-fermentation) which would tweak the flavour profile and aroma slightly.

Each can is shrinkwrapped (the first time Five Points have decorated in this way) with images of various cats owned by Field Day and Five Points staff, hence it being known as “the cat beer” internally at the brewery.

The beer will be on sale at Field Day, and from today will also be found at various pubs including Hackney’s Cock Tavern, Shacklewell Arms, Pub On The Park and Mason & Company ahead of time.

A free can of the Citrus Pale will be handed to ticket holders at Shoreditch street food market Dinerama’s upcoming pre-Field Day bash on 30 April.

This event will feature the likes of Tim Burgess and Erol Alkan on the decks, with local foodie favourites Yum Bun and the winningly-named Prawnography handling the catering.

Field Day takes place on Saturday 3 June, with Aphex Twin, Run the Jewels and Thee Oh Sees among the headliners.
