Campaigners from the Save Dalston Lane are holding a wake tomorrow (Saturday 24) in protest at the demolition of Georgian houses.

After a decade-long battle by campaign group OPEN Dalston, the group was forced to concede defeat after a judge turned down a request for one last appeal.

Construction firm Murphy have already started demolishing the houses. The flats will be rebuilt in “heritage likeness”, with new flats for private sale.

Responding to the judge’s decision, OPEN Dalston’s Bill Parry-Davies said it was a “sad day for Dalston”. He said: “OPEN felt we at least had try to save Dalston Terrace, a rare vestige of Georgian heritage, and to secure some affordable housing for local people. The community has donated thousands to the fight.”

Members of OPEN Dalston are meeting at number 66 Dalston Lane at midday and invite members of the public to join.
