Man charged with murder after Hackney pub stabbing

A man has been charged with murder following an incident in Clapton last month.

Martin Ward, 23, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Tommy Lawrence, following an attack in Mandeville Street in the late hours of Thursday 27 October.

Lawrence was found by police at 11.50 pm following a reported incident at the Glyn Arms pub.

Shortly after arriving at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, Lawrence died. A post-mortem examination, conducted at Poplar Mortuary, revealed that the victim had suffered a fatal stab wound to the heart.

By the next day, a Barking police team led by DCI Nicola Wall of the Homicide Serious Crime Command arrested three men, all in their 20s.

A fourth man, Ward, was then arrested and charged on Saturday 29 October, after being tracked down by officers in Wales. The first three suspects were released without charge.

Ward, an unemployed man with no fixed abode, appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday 31 October and will return on 6 January.
