It’s Movember at the Kenton

Dalston style reaches Homerton pub

Customers at the Kenton pub in Homerton might want to grow a ‘mo’ (moustache) in November in support of the Prostate Cancer Charity.

The charity’s Movember Movement, which started in a pub in Australia, encourages participants to grow a moustache from scratch, starting clean shaven on 1 November and abstaining from shaving for the entire month.

Each participant must try to raise as much money as possible through sponsors and the Kenton will hand all funds raised over to the charity at the end of the month.

The Kenton’s manager Louise Hansen – an Australian – brought Movember to The Kenton. Its landlord Egil Johansen and male staff will all be taking part.

“It’s a fun thing to do, and it’s for a good cause,” explains Louise. “By the end of the month we will have a party in the pub to award Mr. Movember to the man who has the best moustache, who will be selected by a panel of judges.”

The party will be held on Saturday 27 November, and the individual who has raised the most money will receive a £50 tab to spend in the bar.

Anyone who cannot grow a moustache will have the opportunity to buy fake ones at the bar throughout the month.

Proceeds from the weekly pub quiz on Tuesday 23 November and from Rock & Roll Bingo on 21 November will also be added to the Movember donation fund.
