The Clapton Art Market is back for a second year running – with a wealth of local talent on display and money being raised for community projects.

The free event will take place at the beautiful Old School Rooms, part of the iconic Round Chapel on Powerscroft Road, on Thursday 12 June from 6-9pm.

Visitors will have a chance to meet and buy directly from a range of artists working in different mediums, including printmaking, painting and illustration.

Michelle Baker, centre manager at the Old School Rooms, said: “The Clapton Art Market brings artists and buyers together, championing creativity in our neighbourhood while raising money for our community projects.

“Our projects work towards more equitable access to space and activities for wellbeing and social connection—bridging the gap to statutory services and supporting a happier, healthier, more connected neighbourhood.”

Among the artists taking part are Cath Pater-Lancucki, whose expressive paintings celebrate the everyday beauty of life in Hackney – from rowers on the River Lea to swimmers at the West Reservoir.

Painter and illustrator Becky Baur is also involved, and guests can expect her trademark bold colours and simplified forms that are designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia.

If screen prints are more your scene, than David Newton’s hand-crafted, playful artworks might be of interest.

Baker added: “Supporting local artists isn’t just about buying beautiful work—it’s about sustaining the cultural and economic fabric of a place.

“By choosing to spend locally, visitors help independent artists thrive, nurture a more vibrant creative scene, and invest in projects that bring people together for mutual support.”

This year’s market is helping community projects for people with complex needs, homeless families, new parents and the elderly, among others.

Along with all the artists, local chef Chris Wong will be on hand with bar snacks, and DJ DMc will provide a laid-back soundtrack.

Entry to the market is free, and all are welcome.
