Hackney mayoral by-election to take place following Philip Glanville’s resignation

Notice of Mayoral vacancy

A by-election has been announced for the top job of Mayor of Hackney, following the resignation of Philip Glanville over what he described as an “error of judgement”.

He was photographed at a Eurovision-themed party just hours after he learnt that his then housemate, Tom Dewey, had been arrested by the National Crime Agency.

The party took place just weeks after Dewey had been elected as a Labour councillor for De Beauvoir.

Dewey was given a 12-month suspended sentence this summer after he admitted possessing 1,850 indecent images of children.

By law, the by-election has to be held within 35 working days, but the council has not yet published the date.
