Upcoming exhibition in Stoke Newington wants to ‘go beyond notion of art as only a two-way conversation’

An exhibition celebrating conversations between artists and viewers is set to launch in Stoke Newington next month.

Conversations in Colour will take over Stokey Pop Up, just a stone’s throw from Abney Park, from 10-14 November.

The show, curated by arts organisation Pilgrims Contemporary (PC), will feature artwork by both up-and-coming and established artists from across the globe.

The hope is that the showcase “has the power to transform and enrich the lives of many”, and that it will encourage visitors to think critically about how they engage with art.

A spokesperson for Pilgrims Contemporary said: “In this show we look to go beyond the preconceived notion that art is only a two-way conversation between the viewer and the artist.

“Artists speak to us through their work and we listen, but rarely do we recognise the conversations between artists that are happening right in front of us.”

The exhibition features work by Claire Shakespeare, Daniel Bruce Hughes, Julia Bennett, Piers Muiry, Roland Piche, and more.

Pilgrims Contemporary was founded in 2019 in a bid to create a more sustainable and accessible system to exhibit and sell art, as well as to provide a means for new and lesser-known creators to break through.

As well as curating exhibitions, the group also specialises in art investments and now sponsors physical residencies for artists.

This will be Pilgrim Contemporary’s second group exhibition in London – the first, Footprints, took Deptford’s Arthub Studios by storm last year.

Conversations in Colour will run from 10-14 November at Stokey Pop Up, 147 Stoke Newington High Street, N16 0NY.
