Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward “as a matter of urgency”, following a rape in Amhurst Road in the early hours of Friday 4 December.

A 30-year-old woman was attacked last Friday between 3am and 5am as she walked along Amhurst Road, which runs between Hackney Central station and Stoke Newington Road.

The suspect forced the woman down a basement stairwell of a property before raping her. He then fled in the direction of Stoke Newington.

The attacker is described as a black man, between 20 and 30 years old, 5ft 5″ tall and of athletic build. He wore a black hooded top, jeans and a dark jacket.

An e-fit of the suspect was today released by detectives from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command. An e-fit is a computerised method of producing faces of wanted criminals, based on eyewitness descriptions.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the e-fit, or the description of the clothing, to contact officers as a matter of urgency,” said Detective Constable Jason Shallis, who is leading the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 020 8733 5952 ref. 4630762/15, or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
