What a beauty!: A scarlett peacock butterfly in the dome in Clissold Park

Butterfly fanciers will be all aflutter at the news that the Clissold Park butterfly dome is open again for the summer months.

The dome houses a small collection of tropical butterflies as well as nectar-rich plants that provide them with food.

It is located in the Clissold Park ‘zoo’ next to the deer enclosure and the aviary and allows children to explore the life cycle of one of nature’s most fascinating insect families.

After munching through leaves as hungry caterpillar grubs, butterflies pupate in order to transform themselves into brilliantly coloured winged adults.
