Garbed in wacky costumes, supporters of a Hackney hospice will dash down Mare Street as part of a charity fundraiser.

The Hackney Empire and St Joseph’s Hospice are hosting a ‘Dame Dash’ fun run featuring pantomime heroes like Peter Pan, Prince Charming and the Pantomime Horse on 27 October.

Actor Christopher Biggins, who lives in Victoria Park, joined panto dame Kat B and Buttercup the cow at the event’s launch on Monday.

St Joseph’s Hospice, the second oldest hospice in Britain, was established by Irish nuns in the early 1900s. It provides palliative care for inpatients as well as respite care via its day hospice and counselling and a range of other services for outpatients.

Dame Dash is suitable for all ages, although participants under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is £15 per adult, £5 per child (a child is 0-16) and £35 for a family of two adults and up to three children. Plus, sponsorship of £100 per adult and £25 per child is required.
