William Cheshire is an established name in jewellery design, having been featured in fashion mags such as Vogue and Elle. A resident of Hackney for the past 13 years, he has now opened his doors to the public on Broadway Market.

Inspired by the old Victorian shops in the vicinity, Cheshire decorated the space himself, believing that its size and environment make people feel close to the jewellery.

The store’s opening coincided with Cheshire’s celebration of ten years as a brand. Like many aspiring jewellers, he started with a modest workshop in Hatton Garden. Yet he soon realised that opening a shop there would not work for him as the area is, as he puts it, “too traditional.”

He says his clients tend to be “young people and people who are interested in small individual brands breaking out”.

His jewellery is known for its simplicity, elegance and finish.

“What is so good about jewellery is that it’s done in a very small scale and you can get such fine details,” he said.

The pieces do not come cheap, ranging from £68 to £6500. But you get what you pay for; the materials used are mostly silver and conflict-free diamonds, which means the products used come from ethical and environmentally responsible sources.

The store offers a range of pieces from different collections. ‘Spiritual audacity’, a new collection inspired by London’s architecture, will be available from the New Year.
