Which way to East Wick?

new olympic neighbourhoods map

Hackney is to get a new neighbourhood after the 2012 Games. East Wick, as it will be known, is one of five new neighbourhoods which will be built on the Olympic Park site.

Nearly 2,000 suggestions had been put forward in a public competition to name them. They were judged by a panel  which included representatives from Olympic borough councils.

East Wick, one of the five winning names, was suggested by Hackney resident Oliver O’Brien.

When asked by the Citizen what they thought of the name, most Twitter respondents appeared bemused: “I think witches”; “East Wick? ‘Three Beautiful Women. One Lucky Devil’”; “I’m already buying pointy hats”.

The other new neighbourhoods will be Chobham Manor, Marshgate Wharf, Sweetwater and Pudding Mill. They will share a new green space called Queen Elizabeth Park.
