Detectives have asked for the public’s help after a man was stabbed to death in Stoke Newington yesterday evening.

Police were called at 5.47pm to reports of an incident on Matthias Road, and arrived to find the man, thought to be in his thirties, suffering from a knife wound.

Officers administered CPR before ambulance crews arrived, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 6.10pm.

Detectives believe the victim may have been attacked in nearby Cowper Road and have set up crime scenes at both locations.

Urgent enquiries are being made to confirm the identity of the victim and inform next of kin.

As of yet no arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine of the Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command said: “This attack took place in the early evening, in a residential street and in broad daylight.

“There would have been people around and I need those people to call police. Whatever you saw, whether the fatal assault, the events leading up to it or the aftermath, it is vitally important that you call us.

“It is only by people working with police that we can make London safe and your call may be vital in helping us understand how a young man came to be brutally killed.”
