MIRRORS Festival tickets can be snapped up from today, following the announcement of the first fourteen acts on show at the multi-venue musical celebration earlier this week. Gigs will be held at four Hackney Central locations – St John At Hackney Church, OSLO, MOTH Club and Paper Dress Vintage.

This third annual edition of the all-dayer, on Saturday 28th October, will bring the wry sad-sackery of Welsh-based whingers Los Campesinos! to a Hackney stage for the first time since an intimate show at MOTH last December.

Los Camp’s taut sound and fury will be complemented by main headliners Pinegrove, in their last UK show for 2017.

Their debut album Cardinal has been followed up by live album Elsewhere – the profits of which have been donated, topically, to US hate group monitors Southern Poverty Law Center. This generosity of spirit is matched by an uplifting, communal sound, which Pitchfork describes as “like a warm hug, cozy without being cloying”.

On a similarly mellow tip, Ultimate Painting – formed by Jack Cooper, formerly of feted lo-fi Dalstonites Mazes, and James Hoare of Veronica Falls – round out the top of the bill. The Guardian noted the duo’s ability “to give folk and alt-country a millennial update” – see also their doleful dole anthem ‘(I’ve Got The) Sanctioned Blues’.

Further down the bill, one can find the hard-hitting Swedish shoegaze of Josefin Öhrn & the Liberation (which will fill St John at Hackney), Cat Power and Bright Eyes collaborator Phoebe Bridgers, and Spanish newcomers Baywaves, whose music is as sunkissed and submergent as their moniker suggests.

In previous years, as well as launching artists like Nadine Shah, Cherry Glazerr, Allah-Las and Martha into the Hackney consciousness, MIRRORS have put on literary and cinematic side events – no doubt this year’s full programme will be announced soon.

A Facebook post from MIRRORS HQ suggests that the majority of tickets have already been flogged, so those who fancy it should perhaps act fast.

MIRRORS Festival takes place across Hackney Central on Saturday 28th October. Tickets cost £15 and are available here.
