Shortlisted: Pembury Circus

The Pembury Circus development has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s national Planning and Placemaking Awards.

The project, completed last year by Peabody Trust, one of London’s oldest housing associations, includes 268 new homes, ranging in price from £279,995 for a studio up to £849,995.

As well as new housing, the development includes a community centre, meeting rooms and other space that is available for community groups and residents to use.

The Pembury Circus development is shortlisted in the regeneration category and the London regional category.

Dale Meredith, Development and Sales Director at Peabody, said: “We are very proud to be shortlisted for this award.

“This scheme has helped us fulfil our vision of creating a welcoming estate which includes new homes to rent and buy, and a comprehensive programme of support for residents and the wider community.”

The project was designed by the architecture firmFraser Brown MacKenna Architects.

The director of the firm, Simon Fraser, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to design a regeneration project that has contributed to such a significant transformation of the Pembury Estate.

“Placemaking at Pembury Circus involved replacing a dated and unloved space with a development which connects into the surrounding streets and makes a positive contribution to the townscape.”

The winners will be announced on 29 June at Savoy Place.
