A dead dog was found hanging from the railings of Clissold Park in the early hours of this morning.

The dog, described as a large tan mastiff, was seen by local resident Sean McPherson who was running through the park at 5:30am.

Mr McPherson, 46, an actor who lives on St Hilda’s Road, told the Citizen of his horror when he saw the dog “strung up by its collar” on the 5ft railings.

“I was on my morning run round the park and I got to the path between the graveyard and the park itself”, he said.

“As I ran through I saw an animal on the fence. Initially I thought it was a fox climbing over, but because of its stillness I knew something was awry.

“It was frightening, the dog looked like it had been hung. It was a large staff or mastiff, a light brown or tan colour.”

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at approximately 6:50 am on Wednesday, 7 January to reports of a dead dog found hanging from railings in Clissold Park.

“Officers attended the scene and are liaising with the Council and the RSPCA. Enquiries continue to trace the owner of the dog”.
