The Hackney Citizen has been ‘highly commended’ in the prestigious Niche Market Newspaper of the Year category at the 2014 Newspaper Awards.

The Citizen was singled out by the judges as “an excellent concept that hits the target market right between the eyes.”

At a ceremony last night at the Park Lane Hilton, the Newspaper Awards celebrated excellence in print production and innovation.

Editor Keith Magnum said: “We are thrilled to be honoured alongside such an established group of nominees. I’d like to thank our hard-working team and all of our readers who keep the Citizen going from strength to strength in a challenging era for print.”

Motorcycle News (MCN) took the top prize in the Niche Market category for the fourth time.

Other finalists included Farmers Guardian, Farm Week, First News, Kentishtowner and The Catholic Herald.

The evening’s top prize, the Fujifilm Grand Prix, went to the Guardian‘s Tech Monthly supplement.

The Citizen was also a finalist for the Best Use of New Media award in 2011.
