Young people from across Hackney have been celebrating after achieving strong results in their A levels.

Our Lady’s Convent School in Hackney had the best overall results, according to provisional figures, with 99% of students receiving grades A*-E. Stoke Newington School, Mossbourne Academy and Cardinal Pole Catholic School also performed extremely strongly, with initial figures indicating that 98% of students at each of the three schools passed their A level exams. Clapton Girls’ Technology College was close behind, the preliminary results suggesting a 97% pass rate. When it came to A*-C grades, Mossbourne Academy came top of the class, with 83% of results in that category. Ninety-seven per cent of those leaving the school this year will be going to university.

In the ‘improvement league’, Stoke Newington School is perhaps the most impressive. More than half (55%) of A level students at the school achieved A*, A or B grades – up from 33% in 2010. Cardinal Pole Catholic School is also celebrating another great set of results. At Clapton Girls’ Technology College, six students received straight As, securing places at some of Britain’s top universities including Bristol and Kings College.

Steve Belk, Acting Chief Executive of The Learning Trust, said: “I’m delighted with the results and congratulate students and teachers for their hard work and dedication.”
