Protestors are planning to demonstrate against government cuts outside Hackney Town Hall on Wednesday 2 March.

The protest, which is due to kick off at 5.30pm, will be taking place just before the 7pm meeting of full council which will set the budget for the coming year.

The demonstration is being organised by the campaign group Hackney Alliance to Defend Public Services which is inviting concerned residents to come along and make themselves heard.

The organisation is calling on Hackney councillors to reject the spending reductions imposed on local authorities by the coalition government.

Glyn Harries of Hackney Alliance said, “We want to see a massive demonstration to send the message out to both the national and local politicians that we will not accept our services being slashed.”

Similar demonstrations have been held across the capital in recent days as London local authorities finalise their spending plans for 2010-11.

Hackney Alliance to Defend Public Services is an umbrella organisation that includes a range of groups including trade unions, political parties, voluntary organisations and individual members.
